Slim Aarons iconic photo of the Kaufman HouseSlim Aarons [called “Slim” because of his slender body] whose real name is George Allen Aarons, photographed many of the most famous faces of the late 20th century. With a list that includes The Kennedy’s, Marilyn Monroe, Lauren Bacall, Katharine Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart,  Louis Armstrong & Princess Diana; and a career that spans more than five decades.

As a Jet Set photographer he dedicates himself to the depiction of Hollywood glamour and luxury. His subjects are exclusively celebrities, photographed in luxurious surroundings often around a swimming pool, in their own home.

Photographer Slim Aarons slouches in a chair with the Acropolis
and its surroundings as a backdrop circa 1955

In his twenties he photographed the horrors of the Second World War. Years later Slim Aarons,  who lost his twin brother in the war and won a Purple Heart, said for The New York Times that combat had taught him that the only beach worth landing on was “decorated with beautiful, seminude girls tanning in a tranquil sun.”

Slim Aarons (1916–2006) is regarded as one of the most
influential magazine photographers of his generation.

He has published four books of his photos
