Slim Aarons [called “Slim” because of his slender body] whose real name is George Allen Aarons, photographed many of the most famous faces of the late 20th century. With a list that includes The Kennedy’s, Marilyn Monroe, Lauren Bacall, Katharine Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart, Louis Armstrong & Princess Diana; and a career that spans more than five decades.

As a Jet Set photographer he dedicates himself to the depiction of Hollywood glamour and luxury. His subjects are exclusively celebrities, photographed in luxurious surroundings often around a swimming pool, in their own home.

“I knew everyone,” he said in an interview with The Independent in 2002. “They would invite me to one of their parties because they knew I wouldn’t hurt them. I was one of them.”

In his twenties he photographed the horrors of the Second World War. Years later Slim Aarons, who lost his twin brother in the war and won a Purple Heart, said for The New York Times that combat had taught him that the only beach worth landing on was “decorated with beautiful, seminude girls tanning in a tranquil sun.”
Slim Aarons (1916–2006) is regarded as one of the most
influential magazine photographers of his generation.
He has published four books of his photos
