With two free-spirited 60’s artists as parents [her father is director Jacques Doillon], it is no wonder she sought a life of entertainment and creativity herself.
‘I was raised by muses. Women who had men in awe of them and who wrote them movies and wrote them music.’ she said.
Nicknamed ‘the French Taylor Swift,’ Miss Doillon says she draws her influences from Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bobbie Gentry and Patti Smith – and the bittersweet songs also call to mind her mother’s friend Francoise Hardy.
‘My role models are Patti Smith, Nina Simone and Fiona Apple — the girls who have the balls to say they’re girls,’ said Miss Doillon.
‘In a modern world where a majority of women say, “I don’t need you, I’ve got my money, I’ve got my stuff,”
I say, “I desperately need men.” My whole album is a tribute to men. It takes a man in me to tell you that I’m on my knees for men.’

Miss Doillon’s mother, Jane Birkin — who had the legendary Hermes bag named after her — took a similar approach with men.
After her marriage to composer John Barry ended in 1968, she went on to have a relationship with France’s biggest musical export Serge Gainsbourg, before leaving him for director Jacques Doillon.
Lou Doillon who has been acting in films since the age of five, when she starred in Agnes Varda’s Kung Fu Master, refers to her French film career as ‘under-the-radar’.
Internationally, she has found fame in modeling, walked the runway for Missoni, Tom Ford and Dior. This fall, she is the face of Barneys New York, and has acted as spokesmodel and muse for Givenchy.

But if she’s learned anything from her own famous mother’s flaws and insecurities, she said:
‘If your aim is to be the most beautiful one, you’re fucked. The outside shell is not going to stay faithful to us.”

In 2006 Doillon began writing music with friend and musician Chris Brenner.
Doillon sings, plays guitar and writes lyrics; she released her first EP with Brenner, musician John Mitchell and various artists.
The album is titled ‘Places’ and her first single is “I.C.U.” (as in “I see you”).
Doillon told ‘Interview Magazine’:
“I wrote that because I was desperately in love with someone that I hadn’t seen and that I never saw again in my life. I wandered for months in the street looking for him”
As well as the video at top above, another great video for Devil or Angel for Barney’s New York, features Lou as a life-size marionette with animation by Jo Ratcliffe.
The video shows off Doillon’s soulful voice and their Fall collections, including a Stella McCartney pinstripe dress and red lace Dolce & Gabbana number.
“Lou Doillon lives in Paris. Her part of town is near the Bastille. We had breakfast in her kitchen. I met her lovely dog, and after a few photos in her apartment, we went to the Marché D’Aligre and then lunch at Mamie Green, an awesome little organic restaurant where we were treated like royalty… ” — Garance Doré
